Lisa's passion for teaching and literacy stems from a love of reading and an innate need to share that with others. Prior to joining the SBSL team, Lisa was employed at Carbondale Area School District in Carbondale, PA as the Gifted Support Teacher/Intervention Specialist where she had one-on-one and small group interactions with her students. She was also the Wilson Level 1 Certified Teacher/Dyslexia Practitioner where she ensured all instruction was of the highest quality and most supportive for classroom teachers and students. Prior to these roles, she spent 15 years as a Literacy Coach also for Carbondale Area. While in this role, she provided support and guidance to classroom teachers to aid in their implementation of research-based literacy practices. She also had the privilege of learning best practices with knowledgeable consultants from Step By Step Learning.
Throughout her extensive educational career, Lisa has also been the Data Liaison for the Keystones Opportunity Grant gathering district data, analyzing, and preparing it for key internal and external stakeholders. She has also held a position as a Reading First Facilitator and as an Early Literacy Practicum Advisor for Wilkes University. Earlier in her career she was an elementary teacher of grades 3-6 which allows her to bring additional value and experience when working with classroom teachers to implement Step by Step practices. Lisa is a firm believer in the Dr. Seuss quote: “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go"!
Lisa has been married to her husband Mark for over 30 years and resides in Northeastern Pennsylvania. She has 2 children, a son, Ryan, and a daughter, Alyssa. She has 5 grandchildren – Nathan, Carter, Piper, Addyson, and Elisabeth – which keep her busy, active, and laughing. Her family also includes 2 furry 'sons', rescue pups Max and Buddy. When not working, Lisa enjoys watching and rooting for the Yankees, shopping, traveling, and spending time with her family. She always enjoys reading a good book, especially while on the beach in Myrtle Beach, SC! Her favorite author is Jodi Picoult and some of her favorite kids’ books are Wonder by R.J. Palacio, I Will Always Write Back by Caitlin Alifirenka and Martin Ganda as well as the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney and all books by Margaret Peterson Haddix. She has introduced many of these titles to all of her grandchildren, who also love to read!
