Maria Spinosa Ebert began her career as a self contained 4th grade teacher. Over the next twenty years, she directed her attention to English language learners. This particular population was of special interest because Maria grew up in a multilingual household. She taught in private and public schools from Kindergarten to high school. Before coming to Step by Step, Maria was in a leadership position on the college level. As she gains deeper knowledge on the best ways to teach and learn, she finds joy in sharing the information with fellow educators to ultimately support the success of the children. She has presented at many conferences and inservices throughout the Lehigh Valley and beyond. The deeper Maria got into her search for great teaching, the clearer she became of her mission to teach kids how to read and teach them well. That is what led her to Step by Step Learning.
Maria earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Alvernia University. She earned two Master’s degrees from Lehigh University, one in Globalization and Educational Change and the other in Educational Leadership. She holds her ESL certification and advanced certification in ESL and is working towards her doctorate.
Maria likes to spend time with her awesome husband, two college aged children, Norah (the dog) and JiJi (the cat). She makes a point to remain close to her extended family as well. She feels that her cousins and in laws are more like her siblings. She enjoys healthy eating and exercise so if she is not cooking up some kind of interesting nutritious meal, she will be enjoying some long distance running or walking. She loves to travel in the U.S. and internationally. She believes learning about other cultures shapes our beliefs about our own values.
